International Day of Prayer and Awareness Against Human Trafficking 2025

Feb 8, 2025

"Be ambassadors of hope for freedom and dignity"

St. Josephine Bakhita

St. Josephine Bakhita was 7 years old when she was kidnapped in Sudan and sold into slavery. On the XI International Day of Prayer and Awareness Against Human Trafficking, next Saturday February 8th, her example reminds us of the tragedy of millions of people still victims of modern slavery.

As Scalabrinians, called to serve migrants and refugees who are truly fleeing violence, poverty and exploitation, we stand in solidarity with those who suffer these injustices. Inspired by St. Bakhita’s resilience and faith, we commit to raising awareness, promoting dignity, and advocating for the freedom of all who are oppressed. May her life be a beacon of hope and a call to action for a world without human trafficking.

Read the message of the Scalabrinians’ Superior General Fr. Leonir Chiarello, on the occasion of the XI International Day of Prayer and Awareness Against Human Trafficking:

Be ambassadors of hope for freedom and dignity
Ser embajadores de esperanza para la libertad y la dignidad
Ser embaixadores da esperança de liberdade e dignidade
Essere ambasciatori di speranza per la libertà e la dignità
