Enthronement of Our Lady of Aparecida, September 2024

On September 14, 2024, the Brazilian Catholic Community in the U.S. celebrated the enthronement of the image of Our Lady of Aparecida at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, DC. This historic event drew over 6,000 Brazilians to a special mass, celebrated in Portuguese by Cardinal Seán O’Malley, Archbishop Emeritus of Boston, along with several prominent religious figures, including Scalabrinian Fathers. The image of Our Lady of Aparecida represents the unity of Marian devotions and the growing recognition of the Brazilian community on the international Catholic stage. Bishop Dom Edgar da Cunha, who initiated this significant event, delivered the homily, emphasizing the importance of this moment for the Brazilian community and their deep Catholic faith.

The enthronement of Our Lady of Aparecida serves as more than a ceremonial act; it is a profound symbol of placing our Blessed Mother, the Virgin Mary, at an important place of our hearts and lives. As we honor her through this sacred rite, we are reminded of her constant guidance and love, inviting her intercession and care into our daily walk of faith.

May this event have inspired all believers to strengthen our devotion to Mary and seek her as a refuge and intercessor in times of need.
