Scalabrini International Migration Network (SIMN) Celebrates GivingTuesday, Joining Millions Around the World Participating in the Global Generosity Movement on November 29th, 2022.

New York, November 2022– GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement, unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world. With this year’s launch on November 29th, SIMN is calling for your support in responding to the worsening conditions of people on the move through the campaign Protecting people on the move. Join Scalabrinians in saving their lives.

Deeply encouraged by the recent canonization of our founder, Saint Giovanni Battista Scalabrini, on October 9th 2022, we are determined to continue and redouble our efforts in combating the increasing violence and human rights violations of people on the move.

A rise in humanitarian crises has pushed the number of people forced to flee to unprecedented levels. Be it metrological disasters, lack of resources, or internal and international conflict, the scale of violence and insecurity faced by those forcibly displaced and on the move continues to grow.

Key Facts:

✔︎ More than 4,200 migrants have been reported dead or missing from January to September 2022, accounting for the highest global mortality rate in recent years.[1]

✔︎ The number of people forced to flee worldwide reached 103 million people by June 2022, a jump of almost 15% from the previous winter. This is the largest 6-month increase in recorded history.[2]

Increasing restrictions accompanied by inhumane treatment and danger along the migratory pathways have pushed the need for support and guidance to new levels. The safety of migrants and asylum-seekers is at the forefront of the Scalabrinian Network’s GivingTuesday mission.

SIMN advocates for better protection and pathways to safe migration through emergency relief, healthcare, legal support, and education. A number of employment, entrepreneurship, and social innovation programs are also provided to promote the empowerment and honor the dignity of this vulnerable population. These programs offer local, national, and international strategic responses to the global emergencies, keeping the protection of their human rights at the forefront.

The Scalabrinian network is anchored in the hope that we can ease suffering and save lives by uplifting and protecting those on the move. Now more than ever, it is imperative to join forces to save their lives and bring hope.
