Liturgical Memory of St. Scalabrini - June 1, 2025
June 1st marks the death anniversary of St. John Baptist Scalabrini,
father to the migrants. His heart knew no borders, his love and service
were urgent. His legacy has touched countless lives and continues to
inspire the Scalabrinian mission around the world. Migration is not
merely a social issue; it is a sacred journey. Inspired by St.
Scalabrini, we renew our commitment to welcome, protect, promote, and
integrate the most vulnerable among us. We also raise our voices to
denounce the growing scourge of human trafficking and all forms of
injustice that harm vulnerable people on the move. The vast majority of
migrants are simply seeking a better life, fleeing poverty, violence,
exploitation, lack of opportunity, war, and the impacts of climate
change. They are not invaders or threats. Most seek peace, dignity, and
honest work to support their families. This is what we Scalabrinians
have witnessed for over a century. But our work is not done. We must go
deeper to address the root causes of displacement and raise awareness
about those who exploit the vulnerable. Let us be bold in denouncing
injustice and tireless in building a world where all are treated with
dignity and compassion. May God protect and comfort the innocent.
📖 “When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not
mistreat them. The foreigner residing among you must be treated as
your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in
Egypt. I am the LORD your God.” (Leviticus 19:33-34)
